MIssion of the First United Methodist Church Joaquin
Members of the Methodist Church gladly minister to our entire community, bringing the good news of God's love made known through Jesus, by witnessing the Gospel, sharing our lives, and being committed to the welfare of the others. We strive to be a church where love is an action and not just a word.
God's Speed,

Happenings at Joaquin & Paxton United Methodist Churches
Sunday was the Third Sunday after the Epiphany. The Old Testament Lesson came from Jonah and we see Jonah prophesying reluctantly to the people of Nineveh. Jonah is quite a contrast to Samuel in last week’s Old Testament Lesson. Samuel said, “Speak Lord, for your servant is listening.” Jonah basically said, “Catch me if you can.”
We had a nice group at Paxton and is always nice to have Steven Joe, Liz, and Mike. We all appreciate Joe and Hilda bringing our music each Sunday. At the Joaquin Church it was great to see Simone, Hailey, Michael, and Christopher. It was great to meet and to have Steven worship with us also. It was great to see Mary Skinner this morning. Mary had back surgery and seems to be making progress. We always enjoy having Ms. Hooper at Sunday morning worship. Pat Suhr was back from California and it was great having her back. It was also wonderful to have my neighbor Jo this morning.
The folks at Paxton and Joaquin Methodist were saddened by the passing of their long-time former pastor, Billy Freeman. Billy fought a long battle with cancer. Billy taught and coach for over forty years in East Texas and Northern Louisiana and impacted many kids’ lives. He was a pastor for twenty-three years. We will all miss Bro. Billy and our prayers and thoughts are with his family.
This week at Bible Study we will start with Chapter 8. Bible Study will be Wednesday starting at 6:00. It will be at the Joaquin Methodist Fellowship Hall. I really appreciate Bro. Warr taking charge at last week’s study. Thursday morning at 8:00 we will gather in the Pastor’s Study for prayer and a short devotional and then head to town and have breakfast.
Services at Paxton United Methodist Church begin at 9:30 with Sunday School at 10:30. Spanish language services are at 11:00 with the Rev. Carmelo Dominquez delivering the message. Sunday School at Joaquin Methodist is 10:00 and worship service begins at 11:00. Our website is at joaquinumc.com. Our web master is Jason Gill. Our email address is at joaquinumc@hotmail.com and prayer requests may be sent to joaquinumc@gmail.com and we will post them on our website. Take care and God’s Speed.

The Youth Group at FUMC Joaquin catered the Delta Gamma meeting on Monday, January 9th. Justin, Casey, and Jonathan helped serve and clean up. Thanks to all the friends of the Youth Group who helped cook and serve. There are pictures posted in the Photo link.

After a week of sorting and wrapping, Christian Services volunteers delivered over a hundred Christmas boxes of food and gifts. Check out the photos under the "Photo" tap.

55 people met at the Methodist Church to sing and to share a meal. We sang many great hymns. I really appreciate Lynn Silvey playing the piano for us. We took up a collection for Christian Services. Click on Photo and then Singing to look at pictures.

The Church Conference for the Joaquin/Paxton Charge was held Tuesday, October 25 at 6:00 at Paxton UMC. Rev. Joel McMahon from Center conducted the meeting. Reports from both churches were given and the budgets, apportionments, support of Pastor, and all Committee Reports were approved. The folks at Paxton had wonderful refreshments for everyone and most everyone stayed and visited for awhile after the meeting.
